The B1/B2 Intensive German Program in Mannheim

In UF's “B1/B2 Intensive German Program” in Mannheim, Germany, during the Summer B term, students earn up to nine credits in German language and culture in classes taught by instructors at the University of Mannheim. Students prepare themselves in intensive coursework at the intermediate “B1” level for the Zertifikat Deutsch exam or at the advanced “B2” level for the Goethe-Zertifikat B2-exam. These exams document intermediate and advanced proficiency levels in German according to the internationally recognized Common European Framework of Reference for Language Proficiency. Mannheim provides a prime example of modern German urban life, offering also a unique blend of cultural and economic activities in the heart of the historic Palatinate region.

The "B1/B2 Program" is a total language and culture immersion program. Classes are taught by experienced German instructors of the University of Mannheim. Students are encouraged to speak German at all times. Students also participate in an “Interaction Partner” program which pairs American and German students. The students meet with their interaction partners outside of class to improve their ability to speak and understand the German language as they gain insights into everyday life in the local community.

At the end of the program, students take the proficiency exam either for B1 or B2 level proficiency (exam cost is included in the program).
