Biography
Franz Futterknecht is Professor of German and currently Graduate Coordinator of German. He was born and raised in Germany, studied German and Romance Languages and received his Ph.D. and Habilitation at the University of Mannheim. His teaching and research have been focused on German Literature from the Enlightenment to the 20th century. He is also interested in literary theory and looks at literature in its complex functions within the cultural frame of modern German society. His work includes studies on contemporary authors and the post-war novel, on Heine and the ‘Biedermeier', romantics, and on authors of the Age of Goethe and the Enlightenment.
