Chen Xiangmei, known in the United States by her English name of Anna Chennault, is a journalist, lecturer, international business executive, and author of dozens of books in Chinese and in English. A friend of heads of state in the United States, China, and Taiwan, she has lent her knowledge and skills to many U.S. governmental and citizen committees that address U.S. domestic and international issues. She has served as Vice Chairman of the President’s Export Council; White House Commissioner of Presidential Scholars; Founder and Chairman of the National Republican Heritage Groups Council; and International Chairman of the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial Commission (Photo gallery; AC bio).

Her late husband was Lieutenant General Claire Lee Chennault, commander of the American Volunteer Group (dubbed the “Flying Tigers” or Feihu dui by the Chinese people), the China Air Task Force, and the U.S. Fourteenth Air Force during World War II. She has been actively involved in numerous organizations affiliated with the military and families of veterans. 

Chen Xiangmei has worked tirelessly throughout her career to promote good will and better understanding among the peoples of the United States, China, and Taiwan. For this purpose, she founded the Council of International Cooperation (CIC), a non-profit, non-political organization that supports education in the humanities, the arts, and the sciences. CIC has provided scholarships worldwide, including journalism awards in Taiwan, awards to faculty in China, and scholarships to international students attending U.S. universities for graduate studies. CIC also funds the “General Chennault Awards” of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. The “Chen Xiangmei Scholarship” is CIC’s first ongoing award to an undergraduate program at a U.S. university.
